Rice and Rice Fields

Rice is one of the staple food of the world. People somehow take this for granted due to its abundance. But today is different, a rice shortage is happening and this will eventually create another social unrest or worst, uprising especially from people scaled in the lower class in which these individuals are the planting these rices in the fields.

Rice fields where only available and planted only in countries where there’s enough sun and rain. Asia in particular is one of the continent producing rice. Though not all the countries do focus on the production, but I was extremely sad to know that the Philippines as one of rice producing country had forgotten its ample contribution in the rice production.

There are places in the Philippines that people could harvest their crop up to three times in a year. It is still happening today, but the production is no longer sufficient to support the constituents. As stated by a cause oriented farmers organization, “the Philippine Government doesn’t have program to enhance the rice production of the country.” Instead, the government rely on importing rice from other rice producing countries like Vietnam, Thailand to mention some.

Philippines in particular was once exporting rice during the 70’s and early 80’s. In fact, foreign students from Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan and other neighboring countries were once studied how to till rice fields in some of the finest agriculture universities and colleges before (70’s and 80’s).

Due to rice shortage, some of the world’s rice producing countries had control their rice exports to sustain the needs of their own people. If this shortage will prolong to another year, these countries might totally stop exporting rice to other countries as well. Who will be affected? Who else do you think? The people who doesn’t have enough money to buy this staple food will be greatly affected and the consequence will be unbearable.

We all know that a “hungry stomach will do anything just to satisfy the tummy and empty stomach sends electronic signals to the brain that may cause the person to act unfavorably just to get that rice to gratify the urgent needs.”

People and countries who produce rice should now act or create laws pertaining to rice developments, enhancements and most especially those fields should not be converted to industrial facility.

I, myself is a rice eater and I can eat rice alone even without viand. Replacing rice with a hum berger in my table will be a major concern for me and so the same to any other individuals out there who are rice eaters too.

The Unfinished Business of Microsoft and Yahoo

You got it right, Yahoo and Microsoft Corporation did not finish the deal. Recently, Microsoft plan to merge with Yahoo search engine offering a $44 billion, but Yahoo felt it’s not worth it to distribute this amount to its shareholders.

Microsoft had publicly released a statement about the turn down. You may want to read the statement posted in the Microsoft site here.

What do you think will be the effects if these two giant corporation merges? Who will benefit from the merging? Does Microsoft felt inferior to Google this days?

These are just few of the questions that linger in my mind. Thinking that I am only one of those small entrepreneurs trying to find some luck in this virtual community will be the most affected one. Presently, we have four search engines on the top competing with each other: Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Alexa.

It means that we have four search engines where our products could be located by internet surfers, but when the two merges together, this will create unfavorable effects especially to those small and medium internet entrepreneurs. Instead of four (4), your products or services will now only be seen on three (3) search engines. An Obvious lesser opportunity for every to compete online.

We should not be aware only on the events in the real world. We should be always aware of what is happening around the virtual community specifically on the events and actions being done by these giant internet corporation and search engines. They are the life line of every internet business.

Part II: Pacquiao vs. Marquez

Posted by oniger on 04 Mar 2008 | Tagged as: Sports

Who will win this bout? This fight will again rock the world of boxing fanatics. Both fighters are heroes of their country. Surely both fighters is supported by their own countries.

pac-jmm.jpgThe rematch of these two professional boxers is fast approaching. Both boxers are surely having their best training in preparation with the coming 12 rounds of professional boxing.

Based on the previous fight that had occurred last 2004, Juan Manuel Marquez had fall down 3 times I think (could not remember anymore). But due to his power and determination to win, he had overcome the torture immediately and continued to fight up to the last round.

Manny Pacquiao on the other hand, obtained a cut on his upper right eyebrow that caused him to slow on his quest to knock down Marquez. At the end of the 12 round of boxing, the judges came up with a draw.

Today will be the judgment day for both fighters. Place your bet on the fighter you think will win this fight.

I would like to reiterate that this is not a betting site, but a blog and boxing fanatic as well that is awaiting what will happen on this bout. But you can put you comment here on who will win this bout. Please add a reasonable statement on your comment.
