Rice and Rice Fields

Rice is one of the staple food of the world. People somehow take this for granted due to its abundance. But today is different, a rice shortage is happening and this will eventually create another social unrest or worst, uprising especially from people scaled in the lower class in which these individuals are the planting these rices in the fields.
Rice fields where only available and planted only in countries where there’s enough sun and rain. Asia in particular is one of the continent producing rice. Though not all the countries do focus on the production, but I was extremely sad to know that the Philippines as one of rice producing country had forgotten its ample contribution in the rice production.
There are places in the Philippines that people could harvest their crop up to three times in a year. It is still happening today, but the production is no longer sufficient to support the constituents. As stated by a cause oriented farmers organization, “the Philippine Government doesn’t have program to enhance the rice production of the country.” Instead, the government rely on importing rice from other rice producing countries like Vietnam, Thailand to mention some.
Philippines in particular was once exporting rice during the 70’s and early 80’s. In fact, foreign students from Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan and other neighboring countries were once studied how to till rice fields in some of the finest agriculture universities and colleges before (70’s and 80’s).
Due to rice shortage, some of the world’s rice producing countries had control their rice exports to sustain the needs of their own people. If this shortage will prolong to another year, these countries might totally stop exporting rice to other countries as well. Who will be affected? Who else do you think? The people who doesn’t have enough money to buy this staple food will be greatly affected and the consequence will be unbearable.
We all know that a “hungry stomach will do anything just to satisfy the tummy and empty stomach sends electronic signals to the brain that may cause the person to act unfavorably just to get that rice to gratify the urgent needs.”
People and countries who produce rice should now act or create laws pertaining to rice developments, enhancements and most especially those fields should not be converted to industrial facility.
I, myself is a rice eater and I can eat rice alone even without viand. Replacing rice with a hum berger in my table will be a major concern for me and so the same to any other individuals out there who are rice eaters too.
